Build your ADU first
A state law passed in 2025, AB 462, allows a permitted detached ADU to receive a certificate of occupancy before the main house when the main home was substantially damaged in a declared emergency. For many families, building the ADU first is the fastest way to move back onto their property while the main house is rebuilt.
Permits in Altadena and Pasadena
Altadena is unincorporated Los Angeles County, so rebuild permits go through LA County, which runs one-stop permit centers and an online permit tracking dashboard for fire survivors. Pasadena properties are permitted by the City of Pasadena. We coordinate submittals with your architect or designer; the county or city makes all approval decisions and sets review times.
